Increase your policy’s benefits with riders

Accelerated Death Benefit Rider

*Included 

This rider—also known as a Terminal Illness Rider—is included in your policy at no charge. It gives you access to a portion of your policy’s death benefit if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness resulting in 24 months or less to live.

Accidental Death Benefit Rider

*Available at additional cost

Your policy’s beneficiary will receive an increased death benefit with this rider, if you would die due to an accident. Cost varies by age and benefit amount with options ranging up to $250,000—not to exceed policy face amount.

Return of Premium Rider

*Included with AIG’s Secure Lifetime GUL 3 policy

The return of premium rider—called the Enhanced Surrender Value Rider—is only included on AIG’s Secure Lifetime GUL policy, not their Select-a-Term policies. This return of premium rider offers a one-time option to surrender your GUL policy during a 60-day period following the end of policy year 20 or 25. The cash surrender value for Year 20 is 50% of total premiums paid (minus any withdrawals and/or loans). The cash surrender value for Year 25 is 100% of total premiums paid (minus any withdrawals and/or loans).

Child Rider

*Available at additional cost

For as little as $50 per year, add a child rider that covers your children under age 18. Options range from $10,000 to $25,000 in coverage per child. Ask your Quotacy agent for details.

Premium Waiver for Disability

*Available at additional cost

AIG will waive premium payments during a period of total disability lasting six consecutive months or more. The waived payments don’t have to be paid back. This rider is not available on all policies and the cost varies by age.

The Fine Print

Guidelines & Exclusions

Term Conversion
  • For a 10-year term, conversion to any permanent product is available the first eight years. After that, conversion products are limited.
  • For all other terms, conversion to any permanent product is available the first ten years. After that, conversion products are limited.
  • Partial conversions are allowed.
Accidental Death Benefit Rider
Rider benefit will not be paid out if death is result of:

  • Suicide or attempted suicide,
  • Committing or attempting to commit a felony,
  • Engaging in illegal occupation,
  • Active participation in a riot, insurrection, or terrorist activity,
  • Operating vehicle while having an illegal blood alcohol content level,
  • Infirmity or disease of mind or body or treatment for it,
  • Self-administration of any drug not prescribed or administered by a licensed physician, or
  • Flight in or descent of any aircraft in which you were a pilot or crew member.
Waiver of Premium Rider
  • If disability begins on or after age 60, AIG will waive premiums until one year after total disability began or until age 65—whichever is later.
  • Premiums will not be waived if disability is result of:
    • Attempt of suicide,
    • Committing or attempting to commit a felony, or
    • Active participation in a riot, insurrection, or terrorist activity.
Policy Loans and Withdrawals - GUL only
AIG’s Secure Lifetime GUL 3 has a cash value accumulation feature.

  • Policy loans and withdrawals will affect the guaranteed death benefit.
  • The cash value interest rate is guaranteed at 2% and withdrawals are allowed after the 5th policy year.
  • There is a $25 charge for each withdrawal.
  • Partial withdrawals may be taxed as regular earnings.
  • Loans have variable interest rates.
Accelerated Death Benefit Rider
  • Also known as Terminal Illness Rider.
  • Eligible if you have 24 months or less to live (12 months or less in Florida).
  • Not eligible if terminal illness is result of self-inflicted injuries.
  • May accelerate up to 50% of the death benefit—up to $250,000.
  • Processing fee when payout is accelerated will not exceed $500 ($100 in Florida).
Child Rider
  • Newborn child covered after the 14th day post-birth.
  • Rider can be converted to a new policy up to five times the rider face amount.
  • Parent or child can convert rider at any time during the policy term—up to 31 days prior to the child’s 25th birthday.
  • Child rider terminates at the end of the policy or the child’s 25th birthday—whichever is earliest.
Changing Coverage Amounts - GUL only
  • Increasing the coverage amount on AIG’s Secure Lifetime GUL 3 policy is an available option at any time, subject to satisfactory evidence of insurability.
  • Increasing the coverage amount will void the guaranteed cash value provision of the policy.
  • Decreasing the coverage amount is an available option any time after the first policy year.
