Increase your policy’s benefits with riders

Accelerated Death Benefit Rider

*Included 

This rider is included in your policy at no charge. It gives you access to a portion of your policy’s death benefit, if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness resulting in 12 months or less to live.

Premium Waiver for Disability

*Available at additional cost

This carrier will waive premium payments during a period of total disability lasting six consecutive months or more. The waived payments don’t have to be paid back. This rider is not available on all policies and the cost varies by age.

Unemployment Protection Rider

*Available at additional cost

With this rider, if you become unemployed for at least four consecutive weeks, John Hancock will waive premium payments up to a total of 12 months. The payments will not have to be paid back. Cost varies by age and benefit amount. Ask your Quotacy agent for details.

Manage your policy online

  1. Visit John Hancock Help Center.
  2. Click Register Now! link in the top right-hand corner of the web page.
  3. Click Agree to agree to the Waiver of Liability.
  4. Register as An Individual.
  5. Enter your policy number.
  6. Fill in your personal and policy information.
  7. Create a unique username and password.
  8. Click Submit at the bottom.

The Fine Print

Guidelines & Exclusions

Accelerated Underwriting
  • Their accelerated underwriting program is called ExpressTrack.
  • A phone interview is required.
  • Underwriting may still include evaluation of medical records and motor vehicle records.
  • Eligibility
    • Ages 18-60 applying for coverage up to $1,000,000
    • Currently not available in New York but approval is pending.
  • Being eligible does not guarantee acceptance into the accelerated underwriting program.
  • If not accepted, you continue on to traditional underwriting in which a medical exam is required.
Term Conversion
  • You may convert your term policy to a permanent policy before the end of your term or before the policy anniversary of your 70th year—whichever is earlier.
  • If you convert within the first four years of the policy, you may convert to any permanent policy.
  • If you convert in year five or later, you may convert to a designated universal life product.
Unemployment Protection Rider
  • There is a 12-month waiting period before you are eligible to submit a claim for this benefit.
  • You must submit proof that you have been receiving federal or state unemployment benefits for four continuous weeks.
  • This rider waives the premium up to a $10,000 annual maximum.
  • This rider is only available to face amounts up to $5,000,000.
  • Rider terminates at age 65.
Accelerated Death Benefit Rider
  • Not available in Massachusetts or Oregon.
  • May accelerate up to 50% of your policy’s death benefit—to a maximum of $1,000,000.
Premium Waiver for Disability Rider
  • Also known as Total Disability Waiver.
  • This rider waives the premium up to a total of $5,000 per month.
  • If disability occurs before age 60, the premiums are waived until the recovery from disability or age 94—whichever is earlier; if disability occurs between ages 60-65, premiums are waived until age 65.
  • No premium will be waived if disability occurs at age 65 or later.
Vitality GO/PLUS
  • For John Hancock Term policies with the optional Vitality rider, the cost for Vitality PLUS is 3% of your annual premium and for Protection SIUL policies, the cost for Vitality PLUS rider is $4.00 a month.
  • Apple Watch program is not available in New York or Puerto Rico.
  • Amazon Halo device is not available in New York, Puerto Rico and Guam. 
  • Amazon Prime benefit is not available in New York. Amazon Prime membership available to Vitality PLUS members who have reached Platinum Status for three consecutive program years.
  • The Expedia discounts are not available in New York.
  • The Headspace benefit is not available in New York.
  • The HealthyFood program is currently not available in Guam.
  • In New York, entertainment and shopping rewards are not available and are replaced by healthy living and active lifestyle rewards.
  • Vitality GO is not available in New York.
